Incredible fundraiser raises £13,500 for The Giles' Trust

We want to celebrate Keri Hemming, one of our long-standing fundraisers and a brain tumour survivor.

Keri was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2014 and was referred to the team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham where she underwent surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible. Unfortunately, in 2018 Keri was told the tumour was gradually growing and the decision was made to operate again.

Doctors used a new machine, the Nexstim brain scanner, to help pinpoint the exact location of the tumour to the millimetre. The scanner was donated to the charity by Sir Doug Ellis OBE, former chairman of Aston Villa FC. This amazing piece of equipment means surgery is much safer and more accurate, and also improves the recovery time.

Keri was introduced to The Giles’ Trust during her treatment, she said “I was overwhelmed by the work it does to help people like me and my family. You don’t realise the difference its funding makes until you are there, needing life-saving treatment.” Keri has been supporting the charity ever since, and regularly holds fundraising events. To date Keri has raised an incredible £13,500 for The Giles’ Trust! We can’t thank Keri enough for her support over the years. It’s thanks to people like Keri we are able to continue funding vital research into brain tumours and supporting patients going through treatment right now.
